Mid-term elections?

The Himalayan Times 18 March 2021 Mid-term elections? The people are tired of politicians who make rosy promises but fail them again and again in fulfilling them. As a result, they seem to be gradually losing their credibility by days. However, having said that, the level of political awareness among the majority number of the people is still low which has been the advantage for the politicians to lure them towards their irresponsible and dirty politics. In the recent past weeks, we saw thousands of innocent people out in the streets to cheer the so-called senior leaders who have miserably failed to lead the nation. We now see the senior leaders of some political parties busy in forming another coalition government, following the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the unification of the NCP a few days ago, thus splitting it into the CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre. It was, in fact, a huge legal blow to them. This situation has created another political chaos in the country, wh

Political fantasy

The Himalayan Times 11 March 2021 Political fantasy The Supreme Court’s (SC) recent decision nullifying the unification between the CPN-UML and the CPN-MC was a legal blow to both the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) factions “SC deals legal blow to teetering ruling party” (THT, March 8, Page 1). Their frustration was seen in the recent session of House of Representative (HoR) which had met after it was reinstated by the Supreme Court (SC) 15 days ago. Dahal-Madhav Nepal faction walked out of the house showing concerns over the legitimacy of the government and dissatisfaction of Speaker’s role in the House “Ruckus in House over ordinance” (THT, March 8, Page 1). Surprisingly, the SC’s decision to award the Nepal Communist Party to Rishiram Kattel, who had lodged a complaint two years ago at the SC, came at a time when the two factions of NCP were separately claiming ownership of the NCP and its symbol at the Election Commission (EC) soon after PM Oli had dissolved the HoR and called

Save the nation from being another Sikkim

Save the nation from being another Sikkim Both the Oli led government and the Chand led CPN deserves appreciation for their upcoming peace talks going to be held in near future “Govt forms talk-team to hold talks with Biplav-led party”(THT online, March 2). It seems that the government has agreed to meet their demands that they had put forwarded to the government to fulfil before sitting on the negotiation table. This shows that both of them are keen to resolve their political indifference on the negotiation table and join hands together for the well-being of the nation and the people rather than taking different political paths in order to gain their upper hands on the political agenda. The nation and the people cannot bear any more political and social violence other than they had seen and experienced during the ten long years so-called the people’s war under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal who had decided to join mainstreaming politics almost 16 years ago and is now the co-

Use this peace agreement for national interest

Use this peace agreement for national interest It was indeed wonderful and a sign of huge relief to see the government and once outlawed the Biplav-led CPN singed three-point agreements yesterday at a signing ceremony in Kathmandu. The three-point agreement has it that the Communist Party of Nepal would seek to address all its political issues through dialogue and carry out all political activities in a peaceful manner, and the government, in return, would lift the ban imposed on the party’s activities and initiate the process to release the party’s cadres and withdraw cases against them.   Netra Bikram Chand, general secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal, who made his first public appearance in two years, said on Friday that he was committed to the three-point agreement reached between his party and the government. It is yet to be seen whether there was any hidden political agenda between the Oli-led government and Biplav-led CPN behind this hectically held peace agreeme

Oli made another political stunt

Oli made another political stunt It was wonderful to learn that the Oli-led government and the Boplav-led CPM have singed three point agreements this afternoon (4 March 2021) following their marathon negotiation talks for the last two days. The government agreed to lift a ban on the group, release all their party members and supporters in jail and drop all legal cases against them, while the group agreed to give up all violence and resolve any issues through peaceful dialogue, the government said in a statement after peace talks.   Details of the agreement would be made public at a joint ceremony Friday with Prime Minister Oli and the leader of the rebel group Netra Bikram Chand, who is better known by his guerrilla name, Biplav. The rebels also call themselves the Nepal Communist Party. This shows that the Prime Minister has made another political stunt. It remains to be seen the impact of this peace agreement in the days to come at a time when he is being cornered by his riva

First, save the nation

The Himalayan Times 4 March 2021 First, save the nation I must congratulate and wish both the Oli-led government and the Chand-led CPN for their upcoming peace talks to be held in the near future “Govt forms talk-team to hold talks with Biplav-led party”(THT online, March 2). It seems that the government has agreed to meet their demands that they had put forward to the government before sitting at the negotiation table. This shows that both of them are keen to resolve their political differences on the negotiation table and join hands together for the well-being of the nation and the people rather than taking different political paths in order to gain the upper hands on the political agenda.   The nation and the people cannot bear any more political and social violence other than they had seen and experienced during the 10 long years of the so-called people’s war under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who had decided to join mainstream politics almost 16 years ago and is
